We are increasingly interested and concerned how consumption impacts the world and its ecosystems. Producers – and therefore Mount Sunzu Coffee – need to accelerate their pace to act as change agents and ignite a real transformation of their production systems.
Mount Sunzu Coffee is embedded in the prevailing local structures. It is part of the society and the local, regional and global environment. We understand the role and the importance our company has in terms of local impact. Therefore, we don’t simply want to coexist with our surroundings, we take our responsibility in improving the local situation. We are committed to this responsibility and we are eager to take the steps necessary to pursue the goal of a fair and equal world in which everybody can live their life in dignity.
We propose a mix of different reforestation scenarios, inclusive agroforestry, woodlots, boundary planting and assisted natural regeneration, to focus on farm resilience and productivity of the 200-hectare coffee farm, while ensuring cost-effective carbon sequestration. Additionally, forest conservation and reforestation models are introduced on the remaining 570 hectares that are foreseen as conservational ecological zones.
We launched a Zambian social initiative with the goal to create an alternative income through honey production while protecting endangered Miombo forests.
Mountain Gold Honey provides training in beekeeping, assists rural communities in developing production and management skills, record-keeping, and basic farm economics competencies. The honey is bought for a guaranteed price.
We promote an efficient and sustainable solution by combining solar power and irrigation in an innovative way appropriate for professional agricultural applications in rural areas. We seek to make use of locally available and abundant renewable energy sources and link these to the pressing needs of commercial farms for safe and secure energy supply. Our goal is to produce CO2-neutral, climate positive, coffee.
